Life Without School - Bed Rest

HOME'S COOL
Life Without School!

You can't help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn't spell it right; but spelling isn't everything. There are days when spelling Tuesday simply doesn't count. -Winnie The Pooh

Friday, January 18, 2013 – Saturday, January 19, 2013

So, if you've been following my pregnancy saga at all, you'll know I've already had three losses and am now a little over 8 weeks pregnant and that this pregnancy has already come with a few scares of its own.

Therefore, on Friday and Saturday, I stayed in bed basically all day long, only getting up to go to the bathroom for the most part. I watched a lot of TV, read, used the Internet via my phone and played games on my phone and so on.

I'm so thankful for Alexa who, at 12, is an ENORMOUS help to me. When Shawn was at work, she took care of Ben, took him in the backyard to play, brought me food, drinks and other things as needed, served the food I ordered to her siblings for dinner, did a bit of straightening up, and really held it together. She is aware of the pregnancy and everything going on because I knew I needed her to be helpful to me and because I knew she was aware when I was running to a million doctor and lab appointments and that it would worry her if she didn't know why I was going. So the other two kids have no idea yet, but Alexa knows and has helped me a lot.

As I have no pictures of anything that happened this weekend (Shawn did take Alexa to judo Saturday but took no pictures), here is an ultrasound picture that the hospital gave me last night:

Sunday I will be taking things pretty easy, too, and on Monday I will have my next doctor appointment. Hoping for good news!

Meanwhile, the full story of my pregnancy saga can be read here, if interested:

CURRENT CURRICULUM/MATERIALS:

This year, Alexa is using: Oak Meadow 6 Ancient Civilizations and English; Oak Meadow Basic Life Science; Story of the World Middle Ages; Sentence Composing for Middle School; and a combination of Teaching Textbooks Math 6 and Life of Fred.

Ben is using the Oak Meadow 1st Grade curriculum and Reading Eggs along with a few different workbooks.

I'm a pretty relaxed homeschooler. We do school around life, not life around school. We use mainly a fun, hands on curriculum that isn't overly time consuming and isn't dry or textbookish, and we're always willing to drop it for the time being if something fun, interesting, or educational comes up outside the house. Living is learning!
